“Where Did Sunshine Go?”

Customers Commonly ask..where is Sunshine Drapery and Interior Fashions?

They used to be off of Page and we no longer see them there. For many years, Sunshine was on Page Service Drive and customers could come and see the workroom, look at displays and buy fabric, wallpaper, accessories, rugs, and more.  But in the early 2000’s, the business climate began to change and then owner Les Finkelstein and his President, Bruce Bernstein made a strategic move to position Sunshine for the next several decades.  Finkelstein and Bernstein saw that the walk in traffic was reducing and especially the do it yourself customer was not shopping as much.  Wallpaper began to turn, accessory mass merchants like Home Goods and Hobby lobby began opening and taking a dent into business.  The do it yourself were also looking heavily into the internet for fabric purchases.  It all started mounting up.  But, the one area that always worked well was the in HOME DECORATING business and it always had been the core to its success.  Finkelstein and Bernstein decided to put their efforts into what they did best.. their primary business.  The Page Service Location was sold and Sunshine moved a mile away and opened a newer workroom and corporate office at 11800 Adie Road.  Bernstein and Finkelstein also decided to have “smaller”  Sunshines with displays, fabric samples, and basically boutique stores where customers could still look at all the beautiful work done.  Customers can even still buy accessories because each store does carry inventory.  Thus, they opened locations and today in Chesterfield and Sunset Hills.  They also bought another company along the way.. The Great Cover Up which is located in the Ladue Market which offers wallpaper, accessories, lamps, custom drapes, furniture and more.  All of a sudden, there were 4 locations and not just one big one.  The locations compliment the in home shop at home service.  A customer can go into a location and set up an appointment for a decorator to visit in the home.  If customers don’t want to go to a location, then they simply can set an appointment (24 hours a day with our fabulous overnight answering service) or email on this very website.  Sunshine has made the transition and has not looked back.  Bernstein became the owner as Finkelstein retired and is very focused on their key strengths.  Bernstein is commonly asked why should I shop Sunshine?  His response is threefold: “Experienced, professional staff who know what they are doing in a complicated business; his own workroom where every single drapery is made by his people and no subcontracting out; almost 500 skus of in house fabric that retails at 50-60% off book prices.  Bernstein says change is inevitable..”We stick to our core principles, but I am not afraid to change with the times and market…the recession knocked out a lot of decorating businesses..but not ours!”  We’ve serviced Missouri and Illinois and will continue to do so and always look for ways to offer value to our many loyal customers.
