Today’s world is busy! Two full time working parents, children with many activities, running to sporting events, music and dance lessons, homework, school meetings, getting dinner on the table, laundry, and so on, so on, and so on. Sound familiar?

This hectic, fast-paced lifestyle is dictating the need for an uncluttered, relaxing home environment. Gone are the days of ornate styles and “keeping up with the Joneses”. Today’s home décor is about creating tranquil, relaxing, real life atmospheres, focusing on function and simplicity.

Contemporary design no longer conjures the look of cold, hard lines. It now includes transitional design with clean lines, neutral softer colors, and open spaces. Less is more; a calmer more soothing approach.

Windows are being treated with classic design, trending towards the tailored look. Box pleated valances, cornice boards, grommet style draperies, and pleated panels. All used to soften the windows without “taking them over”. Drapery is being installed higher up on the wall, using the space surrounding the window, allowing as much natural light in without obstructing the view; thus raising the eye, creating that open, light and airy space.

Woven wood shades, fabric roller shades, roman shades, and architectural blinds/shutters are being used as well to create this simpler, cleaner look.

Regardless of your talents and creativity in design, it is advisable to consult with a window covering professional. How to Clean Window Treatments

One of the most overlooked areas of cleaning in the home is undeniably the window draperies and blinds.  Layers of thick dust and dirt on the window treatments are never a good idea and can lead to respiratory and breathing issues for those with allergies.  Window blinds are easier to clean than most people realize and draperies can be cleaned in the washing machine or taken to the dry cleaners for freshening up as well.  If you dust your blinds and vacuum draperies once a week, it will help keep them clean and fresh and cuts down on dust and allergens in the household as well.

Save Money on Summer Electric Bills Using Cellular Window Shades

Cellular shades are also referred to as “honeycombs” and these types of window treatments combine the same technology as double-paned glass, with the versatility of traditional blinds.  These types of window shades are unique in the fact they trap air pockets next to the window, in order to decrease the amount of heat or cool air lost and to increase the insulation of the home.  The cells or honeycombs of these shades will trap air between pockets of fabric and cause there to be an insulating blanket in between the room and window, which will increase heat in the winter and make it much cooler in the summer time.
