Sunshine Drapery & Interior Design To Celebrate 50^th Anniversary in 2019

ST. LOUIS, MO -- January 7, 2019 -- Sunshine Drapery and Interior Design announces the celebration of its 50^th anniversary in 2019. The firm launched in 1969 and continues to thrive as St. Louis’ premier provider of custom draperies and interior design for both commercial businesses and home owners. Sunshine, under the ownership of Bruce Bernstein, who purchased the firm in 2008, currently operates from its 25,000 square foot corporate offices and operations center on Adie Road in West St. Louis County. The firm also maintains smaller design centers in Chesterfield and Sunset Hills. In addition it owns The Great Cover Up in Ladue. Bernstein, who started with Sunshine in 1996 and held various positions with the company, became President of the firm in 2004. A former May Company employee, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing the business from Sunshine’s original owner Les Finkelstein. Bernstein says Sunshine has had an interesting history with some ups and downs but has adapted well over the years to keep up with changing trends and better serve its customers. “Sunshine originally offered not only draperies but also many cash and carry items like accessories, wallpaper and cut fabric. Les had a few locations in the West Port and West County areas to start. One on Ashby Road actually had a fire and burnt down. Fortunately we already had a new location being built on Page Service Drive and that helped to soften the blow.” Bernstein notes that Sunshine had outsourced much of their drapery making but moved it in-house and hired a number of seamstresses when they moved to the Page building. In 2006 Finkelstein sold that building and moved their team with some 30 seamstresses into their current location on Adie Road. In addition to its corporate operations on Adie, Sunshine owns and operates storefronts in different locations where customers can conveniently meet with professionals to begin the design process. The firm also has a strong commercial business and works with many senior living facilities.
