Are you ready for new window blinds or shades? Have you considered motorized window treatments? Your window treatment can be motorized using a remote control, a wall switch, or even your computer. Convenience, safety, and appearance are three reasons you might discover the motorized option is the right one for you.
Convenience is probably the most popular reason for motorized window treatments. And why not? Instead of going to each individual window in the dining room to provide share that view of the lake with your guests; you can open the whole bank of windows from a switch on the wall. If your blinds or shades are motorized, you don’t have to arrange furniture so you can reach the cord. No more climbing on the couch to close the shades when the sun is in your eyes. If you or someone in your family is disabled or in a wheelchair, motorized windows provide control. Control, not having to ask for help, is a powerful feeling. That is more than simple convenience.
We usually make choices about our windows and window coverings by how the coverings look and by the appearance of our rooms when the light passes through them. Motorized coverings can play an important part. Our homes now have larger windows, more windows, and windows in places our parents and grandparents never imagined. Skylights and grand windows in great rooms with cathedral ceilings are only two examples of places you really must have motorized window coverings. Before motorized coverings, those windows were either always covered or always uncovered. Let’s face it; you just can’t have a cord hanging from a skylight. And those dangling cords are simply unattractive. Anywhere. The cords get tangled, hang onto furniture, or simply drag behind furniture collecting dust. The cords are difficult to clean when they are dust-covered, too. Of course, there are solutions; but let’s just eliminate the problem, altogether.
The unnecessary danger of dangling cords for small children and pets is the final, but very important reason for motorized window treatments. In 1985, after the news media exposed the hundreds of children’s deaths because of strangulation from looped cords, rules were created to insure that no window treatment used a continuous cord. Changes continued to be made to the Standard for Safety of Corded Window Covering Products in 2007 and 2009, but there were still deaths because of cords. These cords continue to be deadly for children and pets. Motorized blinds and shades just create a safer environment for your little guys.
Another form of safety that motorized shades and blinds can provide is by creating the appearance of an occupied home. No matter where you are, if your motorized window coverings are controlled by your computer, they can be raised and lowered at any time of the day or night. Your house seems to be occupied; the bad guys go elsewhere. Nice. Just make sure your neighbor, who is collecting the mail during your getaway, knows the raising and lowering shades don’t mean you decided to stay home.
Convenience, appearance, and safety are just three reasons motorized window coverings are a fabulous choice. Look around your house and your windows. You are thinking of your own reasons, right?
