Improve Comfort and Productivity with Solar Shades for Commercial Use

Solar shades are a popular choice for commercial use due to their ability to reduce glare and heat gain, improving the comfort and productivity of employees and customers. They are also an energy-efficient option, as they can help to regulate the temperature in a space by blocking out the sun’s rays and reducing the need for air conditioning.

Solar shades are available in a range of styles and materials, including light-filtering and blackout options, allowing you to choose the level of light and privacy that is right for your business. They can be operated manually or with a motorized system, making them easy to use and customize. Solar shades are a practical and stylish choice for any commercial space, and can be an effective addition to any energy-saving strategy.

Solar Shades Offer a Unique Light Filtering Capability.

A solar shade is a roller shade that’s manufactured with fabric designed to reduce glare and infrared heat gain while providing a degree of privacy during the daytime as well as maintaining a view outside. When trying to find the best solar shade for your interiors, consider location, performance and aesthetics.

What Location Is Best for Solar Shades?

When it comes to location, you should know whether your room’s windows face north, south, east or west. The sun is hotter and more intense on windows facing east (early mornings and afternoons) and on windows facing west (noon until 5 p.m.) than it is on windows facing north or south. Knowing the direction your windows face will help you to determine the appropriate fabric to reduce glare and infrared heat gain.

Certain solar shade fabrics can also filter natural light to illuminate your interiors while other solar shade fabrics can provide more daytime privacy. But it’s up to you to decide what feature is most essential as no fabric can accomplish both illuminating and providing more daytime privacy. To help you decide, you need to understand the importance of openness and fabric color.

The Fabric Makes the Difference

When it comes to openness, manufacturers are referring to the density of the weave in the fabric, in other words, the amount of open and/or closed space in the material. Fabrics with a denser weave reflect more infrared heat, offer the greatest glare reduction and provide greater daytime privacy. Fabrics with less dense weaves allow more natural light to filter through the fabric and illuminate a room with a better view out. However this type of solar shade has reduced daytime privacy and doesn’t reflect as much infrared heat. By the same token, a fabric’s openness can be enhanced or decreased depending on the fabric color you select.

For the best glare reduction and view out, choose fabrics with dark colors. Choose light color fabrics if you want more daytime privacy and feel that you need to reflect more solar heat. Working with an interior designer can help you to find a fabric color that will allow natural light to filter through the fabric in varying degrees.

Measuring and Choosing a Mount

Before you measure your windows it’s a good idea to step back and take a good look at your windows so you can determine whether you want to have your solar shades recessed within the window frame or outside the window on the wall or molding. Inside mounts provide a cleaner look while outside mounts will make a window appear larger or hide what you believe to be an unattractive window.

Knowing these basics will give you an easier time selecting the appropriate fabrics for solar shades to meet your needs and tastes. Ask yourself if your top priority is to reduce energy costs by maintaining a more consistent room temperature or if you need a combination or light control and privacy. Or perhaps you want to preserve your view out while reducing glare. Once you establish your needs you’re in a better position to eliminate fabrics that don’t meet your criteria.
