With any luck, we have finally put the worst of winter behind which means it’s time to add touches of spring to your home, even if snow and ice make an appearance! Spring is a favorite season for many homeowners who can’t wait for birds chirping, green grass, baby animals and sunshine. Maybe that’s why so many decorate with spring-like home décor the whole year through. If spring is your favorite time of the year, here are some fun ways to add touches of the season to your home.

Season Update

Swapping out some simple season updates throughout your home can make a big difference. If your living room has a wall of built-ins ideal for displaying collections, then you have the perfect setting for decorating with one of the most identified symbols of spring – nests. You can pick up nests at your local craft store or collect abandoned ones in the fall from trees in your yard. Tucking nests, birds, potted plants, cut flowers and other spring-inspired items into your built-ins and bookcases is one of the easiest ways to add touches of spring to your home.

Fill in Empty Bowls

Another way to bring spring indoors is by filling dough bowls or oversized baskets with some of your favorite items to reflect springtime. Choose your favorite spring scented candles, spring plants, glass floats for spring and nests. A great way to add greenery to your rooms is with inexpensive daffodils and spring bulbs. If these are growing in your backyard, bring a few inside. Otherwise, opt for silk varieties at your local craft store.

Flowers

A vase of tulips is certain to add spring to your living room but you can take the ordinary to extraordinary when you place kumquats in a vase of water, making a unique base for the stems of your yellow tulips or other spring flowers. Or, accent your coffee-table with a tray or basket filled with Granny Smith apples. You’ll have the fragrance and look of spring all wrapped in a beautiful display.

Switch Out Winter Accessories

You can also update your home for the spring season by swapping out pillows and throw blankets. Choose pillows with floral and bird patterns or fabrics. As the weather gets warmer you can bring in fresh spring colors and patterns on simple and affordable panels as a way of sprucing up existing window treatments. Adding touches of spring to your home doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune either. Another way to have your living room sing “spring” is with bright citrus colors on vases, patterned pillows and rugs.

Get Crafty

If you’re crafty and adventurous, you can add style and a touch of spring to any room with carved ready-made ceiling rosettes. Painted in varying shades of yellow, or a bright spring color of your choice, this impressive eye-level wall display, is lightweight, easy to hang and can be found at most home centers for less than $50. And don’t forget about birdcages. You can evoke tabletop conservatories of old by painting a wooden birdcage, creating your own three-dimensional frame for a springtime display. Choose vibrant spring colors for your birdcage and arrange a nest, faux eggs and a small floral arrangement inside to bring another touch of spring into your home.
