Verticals..you either love them or you dislike them. Are they still “in”? Let’s put it this way: they still sell. But what we have found is that like anything, customers want the most up to date looks for today’s times. We used to sell in the 80’s and 90’s plenty of fabric inserted or free hanging verticals. These are still around, but it’s like the 1 inch mini blind..just not as popular. The fabric vertical was replaced significantly by the vinyl vertical.

The Vinyl Vertical

Through the vinyl vertical blindsThe vinyl quite candidly is very functional and looks nice with a lot of patterns to choose from. In recent years, we have seen these get some “pizzaz” to them. This was done by adding a “curve” style. Thus, a vinyl vertical can be straight or it can have curve to it for a unique look. Verticals have been adapted very well with other like products. For example, there is a sheer/vertical combination from many top suppliers like Hunter Douglas and Comfortex Window Fashions. Roman shades for square windows now have a vertical version from Hunter Douglas! Screen shades for square windows which have become a popular look versus the mini blind or 2 inch wood/faux wood also have panel track systems to coordinate. There is even a bamboo/woven wood vertical that just has a nice style and look to it. Bottom line is that many consumers have sliding glass doors and just get frustrated because they do not know what to do for window coverings.   If you “dislike” the traditional vertical, then explore the many other options. But make sure you understand what and why you dislike the vertical and discuss with your window covering specialist and listen to their expertise and inform you of the many options available.
