The designer must have shown me hundreds of options and with her expertise I found the perfect fabric for my drapes. Sunshine is a professional, respectful company, who puts their customer’s needs first. It was a delight working with them

I use Sunshine for all my window dressings. They are stellar from sales to install... Perfect example of excellence in how a company should take care of your needs. The products they provide are exceptional quality. If you treasure in how you are cared for, choose Sunshine. They have earned my five stars.

The first appointment with the designer was made to fit my schedule. She was punctual, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. She didn’t try to oversell me, which I appreciated. While she was at my home, she gave me several good tips to help us when we list our home for sale. The window treatment was delivered on time, and installation was quick and beautifully.

I have been a customer since 2010. They are the best in the business. It has been a pleasure to work with the designer and the installer. You pay for what you get in life and I would highly recommend this company for your interior windows. Our home looks like a showplace because of working with Sunshine Drapery.
Tyler
I fully appreciate the attention, courtesy, professionalism and kindness throughout two different projects. Not only was my designer receptive to my expectations, she presented wonderful ideas and candid critiques to ensure that the projects went smoothly and captured my aesthetic vision.

Been a customer since 1996. The quality and customer service have continued to be excellent over the years. I have never had buyer’s remorse after purchasing from Sunshine. They stand behind their products and services. I have always felt they wanted me to be a happy and satisfied customer.

I used Sunshine Drapery for all of the window treatments of my new house. They installed plantation shutters and will soon be installing the remainder of the shades and curtains. Everyone I have interacted with was very pleasant and helpful. The designer was wonderful. The in home consultation was thorough... I love the way my house looks and I think you will too!
Katelin
The decorator helped me design custom drapes in my combined kitchen/living room area, and custom crescent shaped valances for my great room. ...I have to say, she is the most fun person to work with! Fun to chat with, knowledgeable, flexible, detailed, and, oh, so, thorough. She was patient when I was having a hard time deciding, she was conscientious about our budget, as well, and, I really appreciated that. I loved working with her, and am enjoying our new window treatments!
Deb
We highly recommend Sunshine Drapery. We used them 30+ years ago... and recently to install shutters and blinds. Our new shutters match our crown molding perfectly and keep noise out so well on our busy road.
Ingrid
The draperies were everything I had hoped for — beautifully made, hang perfectly and look fantastic. The quality is excellent and I’m sure these will look great for many years to come. Most definitely worth the investment. Plus the service they provide is also great. The guys that installed my draperies were professionals. They both told me they have worked for Sunshine for many years and that tells me a lot about a company.

Their designer came to the house... on our schedule. We also went to their store to see the blinds we wanted on display. Once we placed the order, the blinds came in very quickly and were professionally installed. They exceeded our expectations and were more than fair on the pricing. I would recommend this company to anyone.
Michael
Very professional, quick to respond, understood what I wanted and gave excellent advice. My drapes are beautiful and I am impressed. I received a response to my initial email within minutes (on a Sunday!), got an appointment quickly and drapes were delivered and installed when promised. I was very comfortable with them in my home. I highly recommend Sunshine

We had a designer come out to help us with custom bedding, throw pillows and 3 small upholstery projects. She was great - patient and helped us come up with ideas and helped us make sure everything would work. When we received the items, we were even more happy! All the custom pieces fit perfectly and pulled the room together in a way we could never have imagined on our own.

My decorator came to my home, made me feel at ease, and listened well to what I did and did not want. She showed me some really neat alternatives and demonstrated how they would look using her ipad. I have used Sunshine several times over the years and they have demonstrated the ability to change with the times as I was needing something “different”. I will continually use them and highly recommend the in home consultation services as they do not charge to come out and are flexible...

We could not be more happy with the our purchase of Plantation Shutters we had installed throughout our new home. From the options the designer was able to offer, to the extreme care that the installer took while in our home, was perfect. Thank you for creating a culture in your company of great care and customer service. We will be back again.
Jeff
Every bit of our experience was excellent. The designer came to our home and helped us with style of blinds and color. We had priced several other stores and the price was better for the same products. Since the Hunter-Douglas blinds have been up in our bedroom, we are no longer getting up at 5:30 am with the sunrise. They are functional and beautiful.

Oldie But Goodie
Your favorite chair looks old. It’s dirty. You can still see the stain from that time you spilled salsa on it, even though you scrubbed it and even tried to “Shout” it out. The skirt on the bottom is chewed from when Rover was just a puppy and still teething. The fabric is faded and worn on the seat and back from where you sat to watch the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Masters. But this is your favorite chair. You don’t want to get rid of it.
Sure, you could go out and buy a new chair, but it would never replace this chair. And besides, it’s still a good, study piece of furniture. The springs are still firm, the frame is still strong, and most importantly, the chair is still comfortable. Why throw out a quality piece of furniture when you can reupholster it?
Prior to making a decision to reupholster old furniture, make sure you research what you need to know before you reupholster, including checking the frame, springs, and fabric options. Also, sentimental value often comes into play when deciding to reupholster old furniture.
While a new piece may be less expensive and easier to acquire, it may not last as long as quality antique furniture. And it will not have the sentimental value that many pieces of furniture have.
Cost
Costs for reupholstery services vary across the country and are dependent on fabric choice, item condition, and project details. Most quotes from professional upholstery services are for labor only, and do not include the price of fabric. Cost for upholstery fabric usually starts around $40 per yard with designer fabric beginning at around $70 per yard. Luxury, top-quality velvet fabric can cost as much as $200 per yard.
A single chair typically takes about seven yards to reupholster while a couch will use approximately sixteen yards of fabric. A full reupholstery job on a couch that requires restuffing, reupholstery, and repairs to the springs or frame could cost more than its actual value.
The amount of fabric required affects the labor costs, simply because there is more to do. Labor costs can increase due to special circumstances including:
- Attaching, replacing, or fixing fabric cords that outline the seams of cushions or pillows
- Making sure that the fabric aligns correctly on fabric with specialized designs or patterns
- Tufting, which is forming patterns by threading through the fabric and tying the ends, sometimes with buttons or ornaments
Furniture Quality
Older furniture tends to be well-built, as is custom- or hand-made pieces. However, newer pieces may never have been built well to begin with. Manufacturers have lowered their standards in recent years, using engineered wood like particle board rather than kiln-dried hardwood. The frames of newer pieces are often assembled with staples and a fast-drying epoxy rather than with firm-holding screws.
If the item that you are considering having reupholstered has a sturdy, quality frame, strong springs, and a comfortable feel, then it is probably worthy of being reupholstered for a high-quality, custom piece, particularly for furniture that has sentimental value. However, if the frame seems damaged, springs are popping out, and the chair or couch is simply uncomfortable, reupholstering it will not be enough to save it.

Sentimental Value
Many people look beyond the condition of the piece due to sentimental value. Perhaps it’s a chair passed down from a great grandfather or a lounger sofa from the Civil War era or maybe even just a couch that you really, really like. Regardless of what makes the piece special, sometimes we want to keep something because we’ve grown attached to it.
Reupholstering furniture that has a sentimental value is a common practice. Oftentimes, people do more than recreate the original piece. Instead, they add their own touch or style to a piece in the hopes of passing it down to their own children.
For instance, beyond changing the fabric style or color, you can add contrast welt or mingled cord to define the lines of a sculptural piece. You can also change the skirt, either by raising it, adding one, or removing it completely. You can add banding to the bottom of the skirt or take the channeling out for a more modern look.
Making the decision to why reupholster furniture is not difficult. Determine the quality of the piece, ensure that it still has a sturdy frame or has sentimental value to you or your family. If the chair is comfortable or means something to you, it is probably worth getting it professionally reupholstered rather than simply replacing it.
