The Colors

4ff6dff6be11f3e8d39e3dff7c7e44b5For 2015, there are some fantastic new colors creeping into home decorating. Pantone's newest color is Marsala, which is reminiscent of its namesake fortified wine. It's not just for paint, in fact, it's showing up in everything from accessories to drapes and linens. Combine it with neutrals like gray, blues and greens, or the old stand-by beige or white. Other hot colors for the new year include turquoise and all kinds of blues and greens. Combine your favorite colors from the hot picks for a unique look that suits your personality and style.

Patterns & Prints

In there isn't just one pattern that's at the top of every interior designers list. This year, it is all abouta fusion of different designs coming together. From geometric shapes to ethnic patterns, natural elements and rustic touches, the more eclectic the mix, the better. There aren't any rules, it's more of a “whatever feels right” kind of year. Mix up big floral prints, plaids and bold geometric patterns all in the same room. You really cannot over-do the patterns, that is as long as they relate in some way.

The Accessories

Natural elements like wood, bone and even plants will be seen in the trendiest of designs in the new year. You simply can not go wrong with mid-century modern elements including occasional pieces, lamps, vases and other accessories either. It is also extremely trendy to use recycled and up-cycled items. Look for fantastic pieces at local thrift stores, consignment shops, garage sales or even your parent's and grandparent's attics. Hang antique picture frames next to a sleek, modern lamp on a refurbished end-table with a mod vase, just about anything goes.

Window Treatments

One of the hottest trends in window treatments are ceiling-to-floor curtains. They give the illusion of larger windows and add elegance to just about any room. Whether they're heavy drapes or soft, flowing materials, they're a dramatic addition to any decor. Not into curtains or drapes? Flimsy plastic blinds aren't exactly the best looking window treatments. Look for thick wood blinds or bamboo shades instead. The natural finish means they'll compliment just about any decor. Another hot trend is motorized window treatments which can be programmed, or operated with a smartphone or other device. It looks like 2015 will be a fun and exciting year for decorating! You don't have to have an interior design degree to put together an absolutely fabulous decor. You don't have to spend a fortune either. No matter what the trends are, there's really only one thing to remember; design your home the way you want and use the things you love and you can't go wrong.
